Things get personal at Warwick University…

Following on from personal branding sessions we ran at a number of other Universities, Warwick University got in touch to ask us to run a session for them as part of their Summer Skills Programme. Undergraduate and Post Graduate students from a range of disciplines attended the session.  They were a really interesting bunch who were full of ideas, energy and enthusiasm for the session.

One particularly touching story was told by Law Student, Sami Lam.  Sami recounted how she was critically ill when she was young and obtaining good healthcare was a real problem.  This inspired her to follow a career in law with a medical focus.  This led her all the way from Hong Kong to Warwick for her studies.

Reflecting on the session Sami notes:

“Branding is a familiar concept, but yet many have no idea how to apply it to themselves.  Darren brought his expert knowledge and experience to teach attendees how to create their own personal brand in a simple and easy-to-understand way whilst being engaging and funny.  He was very helpful and gave lots of useful advice.  I have since identified my values and used it to develop my personal brand, which, I believe, has significantly strengthened my applications.”

Daniela Roschke, who was Master of Arts (MA), Global Media & Communications and has now gone onto work in PR with Baker & McKenzie outlined:

“We covered a wide range of aspects ranging from brand development to brand construction and maintenance.  Special emphasis was laid on tools helping to discover and communicate personal brands.  The session was dynamic and engaging while the content was well structured, clear and concise.  The audience of prospective graduates went away with thought-provoking ideas and individual feedback on how to make their individual trademarks shine in these challenging economic times.”
